Are you in a creative field? An artist? A writer? Do you often feel stuck in a rut where you want to put something really amazing and extraordinary on that paper or canvas or in your art but just can’t?
Having talent is one thing but being creative and thinking out of the box every single day is no mean feat. Believe me, it is really challenging to bring something new and can be extremely taxing. From my personal experience, sometimes I get so blocked creatively, I go days without writing because nothing comes to my mind.
So, what do we do?
I researched a lot online about getting out of this creative block and tried several ways. Some worked, some didn’t. Here I am putting together the ways that actually worked for me.
1. Take a break
Taking some time off from work can prove to be really helpful. Whether you travel for a few days or simply plan a day out with family or friends – do something that is nowhere related to your work. Believe me that you will come back more rejuvenated with so many amazing ideas flowing out of your brain. A break, short or not, indeed works wonders to boost one’s creativity.
2. Discuss with others
As a creative person, you always tend to doubt yourself and your work which can also hamper productivity as well as the overall thought process. In this scenario, putting your ideas out in the open can be a great help. Do not think twice before discussing your mind with your friends and family. Or, you can ask for ideas and opinions on social media, as well. New perspectives are an interesting way to open new horizons for your work.
3. Put whatever comes in your mind
Never shy away from scribbling or doodling whatever comes to mind. You never know an idea or thought that you might outrightly reject could actually be a good idea. So, jot that idea down however outrageous or unworkable it might seem. Something really amazing will surely come out of it.
4. Start a new hobby
New is always good and brings something better in our lives. A hobby which is a stark contrast from our work can help us break the monotony and come out of the rut. Bring a change in your routine, pick up something you have never done before. It will certainly be that refreshing change you need on a daily basis.
5. Go for a walk daily & meditate
It is the thought that counts. And if there is clarity in your thoughts and vision, then everything else will come easily to you. Going for a morning or an evening walk and 15 minutes of meditation everyday has helped me achieve that. The whiff of fresh morning air along with a little exercise gets the mind instantly to work. So, at any time when you have a doubt or are in a dilemma, go for a walk or a run, you will be able to make a better decision.
Being creative everyday is no piece of cake. We all have our bad days, and on days like these, the tips above have helped me. These small and easy tricks can help you too. Do try and let me know which one worked for you & which didn’t in the comments section.
